Multi-faceted and Multi-talented
My circular route to a writing career started with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. I began a career in the social services, but when studying and writing about mental diseases proved more interesting than dealing with them, I switched to the creative services. Now as a writer with more than 14 years in the communications field, I have written and edited text about anything from freeze dry and chromatography equipment to heat pumps and aesthetic dentistry procedures. I have been a full-time writer for Thermo Scientific (formerly known as Fisher Scientific), and an editor for esthetic dentistry, engineering, medical device, and laboratory trade publications (yes, who knew there could be so many different types of plastic bottles!) Currently, I’m a Senior Writer for LG Electronics, CAC division where I develop training manuals, marketing brochures, web content, and other technical / sales collateral for mini-split and variable refrigerant flow air-conditioning equipment.
An individual with extensive project management skills, I’m also proficient in Word, Excel, Access, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress software programs, and content management systems.
Notable Career and Scholarly Accomplishments
• An eight-page brochure I developed with a coworker was so popular at a 2013 trade show that the Canadian office has requested its use for their market.
• I maintained honor-level grades for my Master’s degree in professional writing while working a demanding full-time job (Member of the Golden Key International and Sigma Tau Delta honour societies).
• A professor requested my PowerPoint presentations from two homework assignments to use in her contention for tenure.
• A notable dentist (also known as the father of modern aesthetic dentistry) said I was “the best editor he’s ever worked with.”
• An author, after I reviewed his fiction manuscript submitted to a literary agency, insisted I guide him in writing his short story.
• I’m a Dean’s List scholar who completed bulk of undergraduate degree in three years.
